Popeye the Tennessee Walker
Popeye
He came to us after the rest of his pasture mates had either passed or been sold. He had been alone in his pasture for several years and this lonely boy needed a herd and the loving hands of many kids. He was a 4-H horse of whom one of our mentors had competed against when she was younger. He is smart and well trained.
We call him our limousine as he has an exceptionally long back that has swayed and gives him pain when we get on him. But through the equine massage and rehab program we our teaching our kids, they are watching the miracle of his back being lifted and strengthened. The kids have learned the value that proper care brings, not only for Popeye but for themselves. We look forward to the celebration day when we will be on his back. But for now, as he grows strong, he has become a favorite in our groundwork program. The kids love to “dance” with him.
